This 32-34 week program, divided into fall and spring semesters, features a 14-lesson curriculum adapted from Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids 1a and 1b, supplemented with additional materials.

Students begin by learning Chinese character writing through strokes, radicals, and simple characters. Penmanship and hand-eye coordination are developed through engaging activities like line drawing, picture drawing, coloring, tracing, and handicrafts.

Student engagement is fostered through a variety of activities, including music, games, singing, dancing, learning about Chinese festivals, and calligraphy. Practical listening and speaking skills are strongly emphasized and practiced in realistic situations.

Taught by experienced Chinese teachers in small, interactive classes, the program fosters students' interest in the Chinese language and inspires a passion for exploring diverse cultures.

This program comes with handouts, in-class exercises, in-class games, assignments, unit tests and unit assessments.

This course is designed for:

• 1st grade, around 5.5-6.5 years old;

• No prior knowledge of Chinese/No Chinese background required.
